 04\01\11 - The Church of St. Seraphim in the city of Vologda (RF), which is under construction, erected a cupola with a cross.  More information can be found on the Vologda diocese website.


 The 2010 Nativity Fast Youth Retreat was held December 24-27, 2010, in the St. Nicholas Covent in Constantia, NY, USA.  Twenty children ages 12 to 20 spent time at the monastery and participated in a range of activities.  A report on the Retreat can be read on the Convent's website - http://stnicholasconvent. blogspot.com/2010/12/nativity- fast-youth-retreat.html
 
 28\12\10 - The Video section contains an interview of Fr. Aleksandr Lipin and parishioner T. A. Kolmakova regarding the legal decison by the Vologodsk court to prohibit Tatiana Aleksandrovna Kolmakova from taking her young son to services at a ROCA church.
 
 24\12\10 - At the insistence of the Moscow Patriarchate, a meeting of the Makarov village council was held on this day, but the MP was unable to convince the members to rescind their decision.  The meeting confirmed instead again to award the plots of land to our Odessa diocese.
 
 The Video section has a film created by Hieromonk Ignatiy called "In Your Name," which depicts the newly-constructed church named for the Nativity of the Mother of God of the St. John of Shanghai Convent in the village of Egorovka in the Odessa oblast of Ukraine.

 17\12\10 - By a decision of the Makarov village council of the Shiryaevskiy region of the Odessa oblast in Ukraine, two plots of land have been granted to the Odessa diocese.  A benevolent monastery dedicated to Holy New Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fedorovna will be established on one plot.  The second plot includes a half-built church in the village of Makarov that was granted to the Odessa diocese previously.  The construction of the church will now go forward.
 
 12\12\10 - With the blessing of Metropolitan Agafangel, Hieromonk Hilarion consecrated the altar table, liturgical objects and vestments of a newly-founded parish of the Church of St. Ilin in the city of Pavlograd in the Dnepropetrovsk oblast of Ukraine.  Hieromonk Hilarion also served the first liturgy at the house church.  The new parish was established through the efforts of the church warden Sergey Savchenko, who was also a delegate at the Vth All-Diaspora Council.

 03/12/10 - The appellate court of Vologda upheld the decision of the city court on August 9, 2010, which ordered Tatyana Aleksandrovna Kolmakov not to take her underage son "to a church at where ROCA priest Fr. Aleksandr Lipin is the rector and to not hold any religious services at home."  This order satisfies the charge made by the representative of the MP Church in Vologda.  The charge named the Church of St. Seraphim in Vologda and others pastored by Fr. Aleksandr as part of a "totalitarian sect."  The court refused to consider documents from Fr. Aleksandr showing that the church was the legal property of the ROCA.

 03/12/10 - Fr. Georgy Titov of Barnaul made a video of him explaining his views on the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.
 
 24\11\10 - The Right Reverend Sofroniy, Archbishop of St. Petersburg and Northern Russia, has accepted Fr. Kirill Ignatiev into our Church.  Fr. Kirill will be the rector of a parish in the Perm region.
 
 24\11\10 - A booklet "Archpriest Lev Lebedev - Why did I join the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad?" has been published (in Russian).

 21\11\10 - On the feast day of the Synaxis of Archangel Michael at the Theophany Monastery in the Pskov Oblast, Archbishop Sofroniy was joined by the rector of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Archpriest Constantine Bussyguin.  More details are available onthe St. Petersburg Diocese website.
 
 21\11\10 - The Right Reverend Bishop Georgiy sanctified a new church in honor of St. Ignatius Brianchaninov in the city of Chadyr-Lunga in Moldova.  The rector is Hieromonk Aleksey (Kaloev).  Bishop Georgiy also served the first Divine Liturgy in the new church, which is located above a basement which is now used as a hall for trapezas.  Photos are available hereSermons by Bishop Georgiy and Fr.  21\11\10 - The Church of St. John of Shanghai in Dneprodzerzhinsk, Ukraine, celebrated the feast day of St. Philaret (Voznesenskiy).  The rector, Fr. Aleksander Martynenko, is in the middle of the photo, along with Deacon Fr. Aleksey Rozhkov and Fr. Georgiy Storozhitskiy.

 12/11/10 - His Eminence Metropolitan Agafangel visited the Church of the Protection of the Mother of God in the city of Malin, Ukraine, where he served a moleben.  (Archpriest Vasiliy Demchenko is the parish rector.)

 06/11/10 - The 2011 official church calendar and typicon have been published, along with a smaller 2011 calendar.  The church calendar and typicon are available only by advance order.  The smaller calendar can be ordered by emailing ipc@paco.net.  The cost is .75 per calendar, not including shipping.
 
 01\11\10 - The MP Pskov Diocese notified the regional arbitration court that they have a right to the building used for 20 years by our parish of the Sovereign icon of the Mother of God in the village of Zhabor.  The building was originally in disastrous condition, with no roof, windows, or doors.  The parish rebuilt the brick building with their own funds and has been using it for 20 years.  Currently, a single mother with 4 children, an invalid and several pensioners live in the adjacent building.  At a parish meeting, it was decided they would do everything possible to resist the MP's claim.
 
 
 
 12\10\10 - The Church of the Sovereign Mother of God icon in Krasnoyarsk, along with its rector, Hieromonk Aleksandr (Luzin), has joined the Siberian diocese.
 
 
 21\09\10 - During the Divine Liturgy on the feast day of the Birth of the Most Holy Theotokos in the Archangel Michael Cathedral in Odessa, Metropolitan Agafangel elevated Hieromonk Methodius to the rank of Hegumen.  Fr. Vitaliy Morozov was awarded the right to wear a gold pectoral cross.
 
 16-18\09\10 - The Bishops' Council met at the Theophany Monastery in Vishegorod, Russia. Present were Metropolitan Agafangel, Archbishops Andronik and Sofroniy, Bishops Afanasiy and Gregory, and the Secretary Bishop Georgiy.  By invitation, Bishops Kirill, Dionisey, Iriney and Nikon also attended.  The minutes are available here.

11\09\10 - After an act of contrition, MP Hegumen Anthimus (Tudos) was accepted into the ranks of clergy of the Bolgrad diocese by the Most Reverend Georgiy, Bishop of Bolgrad and Belgorod-Dnestrovsk, on the day of remembrance of the Beheading of the Glorious Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist, John.
 
06 - 07\09\10 - Protopresbyter Valeriy Alekseyev presented a lecture on the "Church-Slavonic language; its history, meaning in contemporary liturgical practises and its legacy in Slavic culture" at am international symposium in Odessa.  The lecture pointed out the threat from the MP hierarchy of replacing Church-Slavonic with contemporary spoken languages (Russian, Belarussian, Ukrainian).  The lecture also spoke of the religious intolerance evidenced currently in regions of the Russian Federation.
 
The third issue of "The Evangelizer", the official publication of the ROCA Mission in California, USA, has been released.

 01\09\10 - The ROCA Mission in California and its Council announce the formation of a new parish in San Jose in honor of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.  Its website is www.newmartyrschurch.org .
 
 28\08\10 - Bishop Iriney of Vernensk and Semirechensk, the provisional ruling bishop of the Western European diocese was in Switzerland August 25-28 and served in a house church in the city of Thun.  Church members from all over Switzerland and France attended the services.  Bishop Iriney gave communion to a large number of people on the feast day of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.  A pilgrimage was conducted to the caves of St. Beatus, who was the first to preach Christianity in Switzerland during the time of the Apostles.
 

 
 At a parish meeting, the parishioners of the Church of the Holy Ascension in the city of Barnaul, Russia, along with their rector, Fr. Georgiy Titov, elected to join our Church.
 
 26\08\10 - During his visit to America, the Most Reverend Sofroniy, Archbishop of St. Petersburg and Northern Russia, served Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Holy Ascension in Fairfax, Virginia, along with the rector, Bishop Joseph of Washington, D.C., and Fr. Vsevolod Dutikow, Fr. Daniel Meschter, and deacons Fr. Dmitriy Dobronravov and Fr. John Hinton.  During the lunch that followed, Archbishop Sofroniy told of his monastery in Russia, which led to a lively discussion on various topics.
 

 
 20\08\10 - Issue #2 of the magazine "Russian Zoar" has been released.  Pursuant to a decision by the Synod of Bishops, the magazine is considered an official publication of the Synod.  Due to high mailing costs, it has been decided to publish the magazine only three times a year, but include more articles.  Issue #2 has 128 pages.  There will be another issue at the end of this year, about the same size.  The magazine contains important reports of news in our Church along with articles such as a letter written by Metropolitan Anthony, and articles by Metropolitan Anastasy, Archbishop John (Maximovich), Archbishop Averkiy, I. Ilin, I. Andreev, and others.  The cost of a an issue is $1.75 and can be ordered by emailing ipc@paco.net.
 
 09\08\10 - The city court of Vologodsk ruled that a parishioner of one of our ROCA parishes there may not bring her child to services, as "the child becomes sick as a result of attending services."  The ruling was based on a charge brought by the secretary of the MP Diocese of Vologodsk, that the rector of the church "A. P. Lipin broke from the church and created his own sect."  The defense lawyer's testimony showing the falsehood of the charges brought by the MP and proof that the parish belonged to ROCA, which is registered in the US, were not allowed in the case.
 
 15\08\10 - Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Archangel Michael in Odessa was celebrated by Metropolitan Agafangel along with the Most Reverend Cyprian, Bishop of Oreoi, and the Most Reverend Ambrose, Bishop of Methone (both of the Greek Old Calendar Church).  A day earlier, the Greek bishops along with their clergy and church members attended the Vigil service at the St. John Convent, headed by Hegumena Alexandra, in the village of Egorovka.  The group is completing a pilgrimage in Ukraine.  Earlier, they had visited the sacred sites in Kiev.  On Monday, they go on to Romania.  Metropolitan Agafangel had an opportunity to speak with Bishops Cyprian and Ambrose, wherein they expressed their agreement on many ecclesiological matters, as well as the current state of Orthodoxy in the world.

 
 13\08\10 - The Secretary of the Diocese of Western Europe, Protodeacon German Ivanov-Trinadzaty, issued a reply to several recent articles that falsely depict the Church Abroad.
 
 08\08\10 - A Thanksgiving Moleben was served after Divine Liturgy at our Holy Trinity Church in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Argentine Republic.  The moleben included prayers of gratitude for the freedom of religion enjoyed in that country for 115 years.  The moleben was attended by veterans of the Malvinas Islands War, who fought for the sovereignity of Argentina.  A reception was held after the moleben.  Photos of the event are available here.

 01/08/10 - An announcement from "Mountain View."
 
 On July 26-31, 2010, with the blessing of the Right Reverend Afanasiy, Bishop of Vologodsk and Velikoustyuzhsk, a Orthodox youth summer camp with the name "Northern Bastion" was held in the ROCA Vologodsk diocese.  Bishop Afanasiy opened the camp with an introductory remark, noting how important such activiites are in these apocalyptical times.  Opening remarks were also made by the Father Confessor of the camp, Fr. Aleksandr Lipin, and a guest to the camp, Fr. Valeriy Leonichev.  Children from the Vologodsk, Moscow and Kostrom oblasts attended the camp.  The children participated in religious, sport and other activities, visited several sacred sites nearby, and each received a keepsake in memory of the camp.  Despite the short duration of the camp, everyone enjoyed the time together and hope to meet again next year.

 30/07/10 - By an ukase of Metropolitan Agafangel, the rector of the Church of St. John of Shanghai in Dneprodzerzhinsk, Fr. Georgiy Storozhitskiy, is now responsible for the spiritual welfare of the parishes in the Odessa diocese.

 13/07/10 - Archpriest Nikolay Spizhevskiy and his flock were accepted into our Church by the Most Reverend Sofroniy, Archbishop of St. Petersburg and Northern Russia.  Fr. Nikolay will serve the parishes in Khabarovsk and Birobidjan.  At the Theophany Monastery, Archbishop Sofroniy tonsured novice Dionisiy (Pinchyuk) into the mantiya.  Photos from construction at the monastery and also the observance of the feast day of Sts. 16\06\10 - The Most Reverend Iriney, Bishop of Vernensky and Semirechenskiy, has been accepted in our Church and will temporarily head the Diocese of Western Europe.


 
A building set on a large plot of land, which also includes a chapel, has been purchased in the USA.  It was formerly a Catholic convent,  The building, about 2 1\2 hours from New York City, will be used as a religious and cultural center of the ROCA, which did not unite with the Moscow Patriarchate.  All those who would like to help with the renovations are welcome.

 25/05/10 - At the "Nika-M" private school in Odessa, on the day commemorating the unity of all Slavs, Archpriest Valeriy Alekseyev blessed the site for a future monument to honor Sts. Cyril & Methodius.  That was followed by a conference, where Fr. Valeriy made a presentation on the subject, "Church-Slavonic: Its History and Meaning in Contemporary Liturgical Practise."
 

 
16/05/10 - Subdeacon John Hinton was ordained deacon by Bishop Joseph, with Fr. Daniel Meschter attending, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Ascension Church in Fairfax, Virginia, USA.

 26\04\10 - The day before the start of the Bishops Council, Divine Liturgy was served in the Archangel Michael Cathedral with eight bishops in attendance: the Most Reverend Metropolitan Agafangel and the Very Reverend Archbishops Andronik, Sofroniy, and Ioann, and Bishops Georgiy, Afanasiy, Gregory, and Kirill.

22\04\10- With the blessing of ROCA First Hierarch Metropolitan Agafangel, and in accordance with the decision of theFebruary meeting of the Eastern American and Syracuse dioceses, the ROCA California Missionhas been established.  ArchpriestVsevolod Dutikow has been appointed the head of the mission, along with Deacon Dimitriy Dobronravov as his assistant. The goal of the mission is to conduct regularservices on the West Coast by ROCA clergy.  The Missionhas also made available the first issue of its publication “Mission Newsletter.”  Those who wish to receive “Missionary Newsletter” at their home address, should

18\04\10 – The Most Reverend Metropolitan Agafangel blessed the new church dedicated to the Nativity of the Mother of God at the St. John convent in the village of Egorovka, which was built through the efforts of Hegumena Aleksandra (Chernavskaya). The first Divine Liturgy took place after the blessing, officiated by Metropolitan Agafangel along with the Most Reverend Georgiy, Bishop of Bolgradand Belgorod-Dnestrovsk, hieromonks Methodius, Ignatius and Dula, and Fr.Simeon Kaloyev.


 


Atrapeza was held after the liturgy, attended by over 70 people.

 18/03/10 – On this day, 100 years ago, the fourth ROCA First Hierarch, Metropolitan Vitaliy, was born.  Eternal Memory!

  A new parish, in honor of Sts. Boris & Gleb, has been established at 24 Brentwood Dr., Avon, CT, 06001.  At the moment, services are being held in a parishioner’s house. There is no priest yet.  Abp. Andronik and Archpriest Gregory Kotlaroff blessed the premises and the parish will be served by clergy in the diocese.

 12/03/10 – Mother Agapia (Stephanopoulos) has been asked to establish the Synod Assistance Council.

 11/03/10 – Archpriest Ioann Grudnitskiy has been named the rector of the St. Elizabeth parish in Odessa.

ROCA First Hierarch Metropolitan Agafangel visited the United States on February 19-28, 2010.  He officiated at the Triumph of Orthodoxy service at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Astoria, NY,on the second Sunday of Great Lent.  He participated in the Holy Unction service there on February 23 and the Clergy Lenten Retreat of the diocesan clergy that day and the next. On February 24, he served along with Abp. Andronik and B. Joseph the Liturgy of Pre-sanctified Gifts.  A joint meeting of the Eastern America & New York and Syracuse & Nikolskiy dioceses took place after the Liturgy.  Met. Agafangel headed north the next day and visited the Church of St. Nikita the Confessor and the parish in Rochester under the omofor of the Greek Old Calendar Church,where he served a moloben.  Metropolitan also visited our St. Nicholas Convent. On February 27-28, Met. Agafangel served evening vigil and Liturgy the next day at the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Valley Cottage.

   A diocesan conference of the Eastern-American and New York Diocese, chaired by Metropolitan Agafangel, will be held on February 24, 2010, in Astoria. NY.

  14/02/10 – The video section contains Metropolitan Agafangel’s sermon on Forgiveness Sunday.

  09/02/10 – The Library section will contain liturgical books of the Church Abroad. Currently, it contains the service for Triumph of Orthodoxy.

  05/02/10 – During Divine Liturgy on the day honoring St. Blessed Xenia of Petersburg, the Most Reverend Georgiy, Bishop of Bolgrad and Belgorod-Dnestrovsk, ordained Yuriy Vasilyevich Sosyurko a Reader, then Sub-Deacon, and then Deacon.  Sergey Vasilyevich Titov was also made a Reader.


The Winter session of the correspondence seminary of Sts. Cyril and Methodius took place in the Archangel Michael Cathedral in Odessa on February 1-5, 2010.

 

 27\01\10 – The Archangel Michael Cathedral in Odessa now includes an icon stand with an icon of Archangel Michael, St.Panteleimon (containing a holy relic), and Holy Metropolitan St. Philaret of New York.
